The Greater New York Dental Meeting is one of the largest gatherings of dental professionals in the country, and it opens the convention season each year just after Thanksgiving. The 2026 meeting runs Friday, November 27 through Tuesday, December 1, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. The exhibit floor is open Sunday, November 29 through Tuesday, December 1.

Who runs it and how big it is

The meeting is sponsored by two local organizations, the New York County and Second District Dental Societies, and run with the help of volunteers from both. Organizers report that the 2025 meeting drew more than 30,000 registrations, including roughly 12,000 dentists, along with hygienists and assistants, from well over 100 countries. They also report more than 450 technical exhibits that year.

One detail sets it apart. The organizers say it is the only major dental meeting with no pre-registration fee, which helps explain the crowd. The next edition after 2026 is already on the calendar: November 26 to 30, 2027.

What dentists go there to learn

The education program mixes full-day and half-day seminars with hands-on workshops, where dentists practice techniques on models rather than just watching slides. The 2026 program adds specialty tracks in areas such as implants, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry and dental lab education. Office staff can attend as well, which matters because modern cosmetic work depends on the whole team, not only the dentist.

The exhibit floor is the other half of the meeting. The organizers describe it as a place to touch, use and compare the newest materials and technology in dentistry. In practice, that is where many dentists first get their hands on equipment like intraoral scanners, imaging systems and new restorative materials before deciding whether to bring them home.

Why it matters in your chair

A meeting this size is a marketplace of ideas. Not every product on the floor is a breakthrough, and not every lecture changes practice. But when a technique or tool becomes common in offices a year or two later, it very often passed through rooms like these first.

For a patient, the useful takeaway is simple. Ask your dentist how they keep their training current. A thoughtful answer names a specific course or skill, explains why it matters for your treatment, and admits when a new tool is still unproven. Continuing education is not a guarantee of good work. It is a sign of a dentist who keeps checking their own.
