The Hinman Dental Meeting has been running in Atlanta since 1912. The 2027 edition, which the organizers call the 114th annual meeting, runs March 18 to 20, 2027, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

Who runs it

The meeting is run by the Hinman Dental Society, a nonprofit of more than 800 dentists, mostly in metro Atlanta. The society was founded in 1911 and named for the Atlanta dentist who started it. The first meeting followed in 1912, and the society describes it as a clinic strictly for serious professional education. Today it says excess revenue from the meeting funds scholarships.

The meeting has grown a long way from its early classes. The society reports that more than 12,000 dentists, hygienists, assistants and office staff attend each year, from Georgia, the Southeast, across the country and abroad.

What happens there

Continuing education is the core. The society describes peer-reviewed courses and hands-on technical training for the whole team, from general dentists and specialists to hygienists, lab technicians and students. Hands-on matters. Watching a lecture about a bonding technique is useful. Practicing it under supervision is how skill actually changes.

The exhibit hall started in 1942 with 14 booths. The society now describes a cutting-edge trade show featuring the latest dental technology and live learning demonstrations, so dentists can see tools working rather than just reading about them. The organizers do not list specific products or exhibitors for 2027.

Why it matters to you

A meeting with this kind of history is a reminder that dentistry has always advanced through teaching. The tools change: impression trays give way to digital scanners, hand-carved models to 3D-printed ones, film X-rays to digital imaging read with the help of software. The method of spreading good practice stays the same. Dentists learn from other dentists, try new things carefully and bring them home.

For patients, that suggests two good questions. First, how does your dentist keep their skills current, and in which areas? Second, when they adopt something new, how do they decide it is ready? You are not looking for the newest office. You are looking for a dentist who learns steadily and changes their methods for good reasons.
